"Turning Up the Heat"
The
Connect-DC coalition is calling on the DC City Council to conduct
its own investigation into Verizon’s service quality, include all
stakeholders in determining the state and condition of Verizon’s
service and engage Verizon in a discussion about investing more
human resources and infrastructure in D.C.
Coalition volunteers are canvassing District neighborhoods
getting first hand experiences of D.C. residents affected by
Verizon’s declining service. These experiences will be presented at
public hearings on D.C. utility services on February 7th
and 8th.

"Bargaining Report"
On the evening of January 23, 2008, an executive
level meeting was held between CWA and PIW. The purpose of the
meeting was to discuss how the parties could go forward towards a
successful contract.
It
was agreed to by both parties in this meeting that a negotiated
settlement is the best conclusion and that discussions would
continue towards that end.
To provide a favorable atmosphere for success, CWA has agreed to
suspend strike related activities while the parties work towards a
settlement. Both the Union and PIW have committed to continue to
work towards a solution that represents and respects the interests
of all parties.
Please also consider that it is the members at PIW who are the
Union at PIW. Its purpose is to collectively represent its members
regarding hours, wages and working conditions. It is a purely
democratic process—and in a democracy, those who participate,
decide.
A meeting of PIW members will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008
(time and place to be announced). The purpose of this meeting is for
negotiation updates, to answer questions and listen to opinions.
