LABOR RED ALERT!!

"Anti-union Radio Campaign"

The Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, a front group for anti-union forces, is currently running radio ads on radio stations in select areas across the country. We’re asking union and community activists to call in to radio stations when they hear the ads to challenge their arguments against the Employee Free Choice Act.

Below are sample talking points to use when speaking to the radio stations. The goal is to be on the air publicly challenging the arguments made by this anti-union group.

  • I’m calling because I heard a radio ad on your station on the Employee Free Choice Act, and it’s just plain wrong. The fact is that Senator Warner turned his back on working people in Virginia when they voted against the Employee Free Choice Act. Instead of listening to the needs of working families, they sided with big business.
  • A union card is the ticket to the middle class—in fact, 60 million Americans say they would join a union today if they could. But too few will ever get that chance because employers trample on workers’ freedom to form unions, and the law is too weak to stop them.
  • Over 90 percent of employers fight their workers’ efforts to form a union—25 percent of employers illegally fire workers who try to form unions. Instead of sticking with the facts, the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace uses smear tactics to distort the truth.
  • We deserve a real debate on this issue—one with stories, statistics, and an honest to goodness dialogue. These people calling themselves the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace are just a front group paid for by big business, based out of Washington DC. Senator Warner should listen to working families in his state—not these hired guns backed by out-of-state big business.
